Certified in Bible Study

In some of my other posts I have mentioned the Catholic Bible Institute to those who live in the Los Angeles area. It is a great program where you can learn exactly what the Bible is. I just completed my first year of study which is an introduction to the study of the Sacred Scriptures. The goal of the instructors is to help us open our minds to learn new things. Many hispanics have learned a little about the Bible from their parents, but the majority don’t have a deep understanding of what it is.

You can’t just read the Bible like a normal book. I say this because sometimes it is necessary to reflect over the passage to be able to understand the message. Upon beginning to study the Bible, you begin to read the Word in a different way. You start to think and reflect. You learn new things that are sometimes difficult to fathom, because they go against what we have learned years ago throughout our childhood.

Many parishes have their own Bible studies, but the Catholic Bible Institute is overseen by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It is a study that takes into account tradition, culture, geography, theology, and much more in order to understand just what the Bible and it’s authors thousands of years ago. We also have to realize that different parts of the Bible were written for various different cultures with distinct customs. This is why we cannot read the Bible like any other book.

It is a study with reflection, lecture, discussion, and homework. As Martha Nuñez, the director of Relgious Education says, “we’re adults,” and we should act like adults. We must try to better our way of thought and educate ourselves in accordance with our beliefs. This institute give us the opportunity to understand our faith. The opportunity to answer the God’s call and do His will. Whether in your parish, your neighborhood, your community, your job, your school, or your family.
